Petition text

I want to be a European citizen. I want to use the UK’s membership of the EU for good - for action on climate change, on human rights, on global poverty, on inequality and injustice. I want to be part of a democratic, free and fair Europe that works for the good of all those inside and outside her borders.

Why is this important?

The EU referendum is the biggest vote this generation will see. [1] The impact of leaving - not only on the UK, our economy, employment, immigration, science, technology, trade, culture, but also on the rest of Europe - will be felt for decades to come.

The EU is far from perfect. But it’s given us incredible opportunities to fight this generation’s greatest injustices - climate change, human rights abuses, undemocratic governments, global poverty and more. We need to stay in it to reform it, and to keep fighting for these causes.

Both of the main campaigns have focused on Britain’s welfare - what the vote means for our jobs, for our homes, for our trade. But there’s a bigger story here. This vote is about who we are as a nation, and what we want the world to look like.

A remain vote is a vote for cooperation, and a vote against xenophobia. It’s a vote for collaboration, and against isolationism and imperialism. Voting remain is voting for a better future where we work together to overcome the problems of our day, for peace in Europe, and against a future of every man for himself.

The vote is so close - people are split almost 50:50. We need to rally, to realise the opportunities that we have in front of us, and to vote REMAIN.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
